SoulCollage® and Your Mythic Story

  • St Francis Springs Prayer Center 477 Grogan Road Stoneville, NC, 27048 United States (map)

Using SoulCollage® and story, this five-day retreat will explore the question of how our individual story fits into the larger story of this planet. This enables us to see, in the words of Seena Frost, “how our unique thread shines in the weaving of the whole fabric of creation.”

I took it upon myself to get to know my myth, and regarded this as the task of tasks ... I simply had to know what unconscious or pre-conscious myth was forming me.
— C.G. Jung

We will look at the essence of myths and archetypes, symbols and images, the collective and individual unconscious, shadow and synchronicity, and use our SoulCollage® cards to explore our mythic story. As we work with our SoulCollage® cards, the patterns and path of our local life story and how it weaves into the Larger Story of the planet will become clearer.

Archetypes do the weaving of all mythic and universal stories, and we, each one of us, are the threads with which they weave.
— Seena Frost

Which Archetypes and Inner Voices are actively guiding your life? We will make SoulCollage® cards to express these parts and get to know them better. Often difficulties can make more sense in our lives when we see them from a mythic perspective.

You will have ample opportunity in the peaceful space of the retreat center to make SoulCollage® cards (you will have 24 hour access to our creative space), and there will also be free time to go for walks along the river and in the woods to let the images settle and connect. We will also offer a labyrinth walk with an Archetype in the magnificent 11-circuit medieval pattern labyrinth at the retreat center.

Storytelling is at the heart of life. My imagination creates forms that give shape to otherwise sporadic events in everyday life. Gradually I recognize the meaning of my existence through my myth
— Marion Woodman

SOULCOLLAGE® AND YOUR MYTHIC STORY

A couple of the writing sessions will be co-facilitated by Dr Dorian Haarhoff, story-teller, poet, workshop facilitator and mentor,. Dorian has been one of Catherine’s teachers and he is also passionate about developing innate creativity and imagination in personal and professional life. He believes in the power of words, stories and images to create new realities. He believes in the ability of people to revitalise their workplace, build their communities, participate in their healing and find their joy. He is a former Professor of English Literature and author of The Writer’s Voice and a number of books of poetry. Dorian believes that we respond to stories because we are stories. Stories
- inspire and motivate us
- offer insights, opportunities and wake us up
- bring the left (head) and right brain (heart) into harmony
- strengthen identity and resilience
- create relationship and community
- act as agents in change and transformation
- challenge us to live a larger life.

A Big Story enables us to step out of tired and limiting personal dramas into a living myth that gives us the power to approach life issues with greater courage and clarify, conscious that we are connected to deeper dramas.
