This five night trip begins with dinner in Edinburgh on our first day. Day two includes a trip to Rosslyn Chapel in the morning, followed by the Scottish Borders area in the afternoon with a visit to Dryburgh Abbey on the banks of the River Tweed, with its historical roots with the Druids and the early monks of the 13th and 14th century. On day three we travel across the Scottish countryside with numerous stops on the way to explore and drink in the beauty of the landscape to the small town of Dornie where we spend the night with a view of Eilean Donan Castle and the loch surrounding the castle. On day four we will leave early for the Isle of Skye and spend the entire day exploring the island including Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, Fairy Pools and the Fairy Glen, returning to sleep in Dornie at the end of the day. On day five we will travel to Oban via the 10am ferry from the Isle of Skye, visiting small villages on our way as well as the Glenfinnan Viaduct (made famous in the Harry Potter movies). We will spend our final night in Oban, and have a farewell breakfast together on Saturday, June 13th. From there those traveling with Catherine to Iona will head to the ferry to travel to Iona together.
This is the itinerary … what you return home with after this creative pilgrimage is harder to put into words. My aim is that you “return home laden with pollen you shall work up into honey the mind feeds on” to quote the poet R.S. Thomas, and that your sense of possibility will be expanded and deepened as we explore the sacred landscape of Scotland. Through exploring three ways of seeing using our cameras (iPhones are perfect for this) we will start expanding the way we see the world around us.
